8 Simple Practices That Will Help You Get 1% Better Every Day

Change often seems impossible for many. However, small daily improvements over a long period of time can have lasting, big results for positive life change. Here are 8 simple practices that can help you get 1% better each day. Don’t try to implement them all at once. Pick one, make it a habit, and then add another.

1.     Wake up and go to sleep at the same time every day. Having a consistent wake-up and bed time will help regulate your body’s internal clock, making it easier to get up in the morning and fall asleep at night. Consistent times will also give you a sense of structure and discipline, which can help you feel more productive and focused.

2.    Practice mindfulness and meditation. Taking a few minutes each day to focus on your breath and clear your mind can help reduce stress and improve focus. It can also help you gain a new perspective on your thoughts and emotions.

3.    As a byproduct of practicing mindfulness, you can also journal each day. Journaling can consist of your daily or monthly goals. But many can agree that setting goals for yourself and tracking your progress can help you stay motivated and accountable. It will also give you a sense of accomplishment when you can check off all that you have done.

4.    Incorporate exercise or physical activity into your day. Regular exercise is essential for maintaining good physical and mental health. Even a short workout in the morning can help you start your day with a boost of energy and a clear mind. Try searching for an app to help get you started.

5.     Read or learn something new every day. Set a goal for yourself like reading 10 pages a day or listening to 3 podcasts a week. Whatever it is, learning something new each day can help you expand your knowledge and skills.

6.    Practice gratitude. Reflecting on what you are thankful for each day can help you appreciate what you have in life. Try writing down 3 things each day that you are grateful for. Incorporate that as part of your daily journaling.

7.    Look for simple ways to enrich someone’s life. As an extension of gratitude, giving without expecting in return is another way to not only improve your life, but the lives of others. It can be as simple as texting a friend you were thinking about them or it can be a phone call or a smile to a stranger.

8.    Get enough sleep each night. Sleep is essential for our physical and mental health. How much should you get? Well, that depends on your age and physical condition. Generally, 7-8 hours of rest is good but check with your doctor if you are not sure.

Remember, small improvements add up over time. By committing to these simple practices, you can start to see real progress in your personal and professional life. It takes time and effort, but the benefits are well worth it. Before you know it, you will be 1% better every day.
